8/08/14 - My thoughts and observations from Fridays visit to the Disneyland Resort.

Hello everyone,

Friday was a relaxing day at the Disneyland Resort for me. I visited with some friends and enjoyed the entertainment. The parks felt more crowded than previous weeks and the wait times seemed slightly longer the couple times I paid attention to them.

Trip logs and mileage reports are in the Park Miles section.

Thoughts and Observations:

  • I started my day with a trip on the Monorail to check out the sub lagoon work. It had been a couple weeks since my last ride ride due to my impatience and scheduling issues. As you saw in the pictures sea weed is returning to the lagoon as the project enters is final phases. The announced reopening date is September 27th so we are about 7 weeks out. I would think water should be returning to the lagoon in the next few weeks to allow for several weeks of testing and adjusting before opening.

  • The 2014 All-American College Band only has one week left in its run. I caught all their sets Friday as it may be my last time to see them this summer (and someone I was with had not seen them yet this year and wanted to). Click here for my summary page featuring videos and info on this years sets.

  • Wandered out to Critter Country and posted a picture of the water feature near the far corner of the park (between Pooh Corner and attraction exit, this used to be right by the Country Bear exit) and received several comments on it. It is one of those few extra places that is still relatively quiet. I do miss the fishing bear that used to be there. I cannot remember exactly when the bear was removed.. any one remember when?

  • Took a walk through the Grand Californian. The newly reopened Hearthstone Lounge looks as good as new. The smell of fresh paint was still fairly strong on Friday afternoon. There were a fair amount of guests enjoying the space still. Note if you plan to visit the Grand Californian that the Napa Rose is closed through September for renovation and a good portion of the wind facing Grizzly River Run currently has scaffolding around it for work.

  • While in Tomorrowland I walked through the Pizza Port to grab a picture of the Guardians of the Galaxy promotion that was supposed to be going on. But I saw no traces of it. Either I missed it or they are already out. Anyone know? There were some lines so I did not wait to ask a cast member. The promotion was announced to be running through August 31 or until the supply was exhausted and was available if you purchased $30 or more in a single purchase you got an exclusive Guardians of the Galaxy print. Come to think of it I did not see anyone carrying them around this week either.

  • A question came in via Facebook that I did not know the answer to. Any of you Star Trader/Star Wars fans know.. the Droid of the Day at the Star Trader. Is that created by a cast member as an example or is it selected from a guest creation? What's the story behind it? I have gotten requests for a picture of it so when I walk through I usually grab one but I do not know the back story. I always just assumed cast members did it, then the question got me thinking maybe there is more to it.

  • I went for the double feature of Fantasmic and Magical to end my evening. This is always a bit challenging due to scheduling and crowds. You do not have very much time to get from one to the other.. so usually I end up watching the ending of Fantasmic as I am walking and if the fireworks start on time the beginning of the show as I wade through the crowd on Main Street to find a spot to watch.
