Official Walt Disney World Hotels

These are all hotels/resorts operated by people other than Disney. They are all located on Disney property, so they are considered "onsite", but they are located right next to Downtown Disney, and quite a ways away from the rest of Walt Disney World.

In recent years these official resorts have started to use their own busses (non-Disney) which means they now pick/drop off locations by the off-site resorts (not the prime locations Disney uses for its own resorts).

The Geek's Thoughts & Suggestions

If you are spending all the money to go to Florida and stay at Walt Disney World stay at a Disney owned and operated resort. The service is usually a little better and then you can fully experience all the Disney Magic. Also now with Disney having several hotels in the moderate and economical price ranges it is usually the same cost or sometimes cheaper to do so. The only exception I can think of to the above rule is if you are a member of one of the other hotel frequent visitor programs and can get free nights or a great discount, then that is sometimes the better way to go.

Also in recent years due to Disney's expansion these Official resorts (minus the Dolphin and Swan) are not using Disney buses and are using their own. This means less convenient pick/drop off places and a more sporadic schedule.
