Downtown Disney - West Side

The West Side is the newest addition to Downtown Disney. It has many restaurants and shops to visit as well as two unique experiences.

DisneyQuest is Disney virtual themepark. There are several floors of high tech toys to play with. If you are on a Disney vacation package admission is usually included, so stop by and check it out. We ended up spending several evenings there.

Cirque du Soleil is the other unique experience at the West Side. Disney has been hyping this show since it opened. I went to experience the show in December 2007. Here are my comments from that trip report:

I went to see the Cirque du Soleil, La Nouba show. Overall I enjoyed the show, but I still thought it was expensive. The seats we had were about $85 each, that's almost a dollar a minute, its about a 90 minute show. I thought it moved along and had some great performers. I was not a big fan of the music, but I guess it worked. The theater itself was impressive. We were show center but high (about 5 rows from the back I think). Looking around it looked like the view would be good from any of the seats. On first impression the area did not seem that large but when you think of the number of people and size of the stage area it is a large place. The equipment that would come in for each performance whether it was from below, above, or the side was great to watch, from a technical perspective. I wish they would allow for some photography inside, maybe at the beginning or end I do not see what that would hurt.. but they had a strictly enforced no photograph/video rule once inside.

The Geek's Suggestions

DisneyQuest is definitely worth checking out. If you are into technology or video games it's a cool place. Some people may find it a little loud and over powering, but there are several worthwhile things inside. It is usually open late, so after a day at the parks if you need a place to go this is your place. Also for all you kids who always want to play those $1 or more video games at arcades, there are several of them in DisneyQuest and they are all included with your general admission, so go in and enjoy.
