Disney's Hollywood Studios - Steets of America / Commissary Lane

This area of the park has undergoing a major transformation in recent years. This area used to consist of the Muppets, some shops, a theater, and restaurants, a play area, and a New York Street to wander around. The New York street has being expanded and renamed to Streets of America (and before that Big City Streets) and include some additional skylines. The theater has been shuttered for the time being and the old residential street has been demolished and a new stadium for Lights, Motors, Action was built in its place. This high octane stunt spectacular takes you through the paces of several sequences involving cars, trucks, motorcycles, and jet skis.

Also found here is the Studio Backlot Tour, which is one of the few remaining elements from the original park.

Original Thoughts from the 90s-2004 when Mickey Ave housed the Backlot Tour before it "moved" to the Streets of America:
Mickey Ave. is your gateway to the backlot. This used to be the essence of the studios. Here is where you can see moviemagic come alive. This is where you would walk through working sound stages The other big attraction on the backlot is the Backstage Studio Tour. This is a tram tour in which you ride around and see some of the houses used in films and TV shows. Along with going through Catastrophe Canyon (Disney's special effects exhibit). The backlot has taken the hardest hits in the transition to a theme park. The tram tour has been redone several times and now is so short if you blink you might miss it. The information you get during the other tours is somewhat interesting, but it will go in one ear and out the other.

Geek's Thoughts & Suggestions

If you see a line for the Backstage tour try back later, it really fluctuates. It is rather depressing to go on the tour as it now consists of a brief ride through the warehouse and Catasrophe Canyon. Just about everything else on the ride portion is gone. The walkthrough portion still features the Pearl Harbor watertank, but everything else has been cut (you used to go into the sound stages).
