Trip Log:

Started off this cool (temps were in the low 50s when I arrived) heading for DCA. Wandered by GRR and out to the Pier. Made my way past Screamin and onto the Fun Wheel. There was no line at all and we were able to walk right on. After the spin back tracked to Toy Story and waited about 30 minutes. Then continued on around past Goofys and Little Mermaid on my way to the Blue Sky Cellar Patio for some Cars Land pictures. Walked through Bugs Land and out to Hollywood Land. Strolled down Sunset Blvd and then up Hollywood Blvd to Carthay Circle to check out the work. Took a bunch of Buena Vista Street pictures and then visited with some friends near Taste Pilots. We all headed over to Disneyland and strolledd down Main Street USA. Verred into Adventureland and circled around to the Stage Door Cafe to grab some lunch. After lunch walked the Big Thunder Trail stopping by the Ranch along the way. Walked through Fantayland and continued out to the Fantasy Faire and then into Toontown. Circled Toontown and then walked back to the Matterhorn and around to Tomorrowland. Hopped on the Monorail for back to back rides to check out the Buena Vista Street work from above. Once back in Tomorrowland stopped by Innoventions then Buzz before making our way over to Frontierland, stopping briefly at Plaza Gardens along the way. Went for a ride aboard the Mark Twain. Once back on dry land took in a Billy Hill show. After the Billies decided to head to Tomorrowland for dinner. I grabbed some food from Tomorrowland Terrace and met the rest of the group at Pizza Port. Upon completion of our meals we took the Disneyland Railroad to New Orleans Square where we only had a couple minute wait for the Haunted Mansion. After visiting the ghosts headed back to Tomorrowland to catch some of Scot Bruce (Elvis) and then swung by Plaza Gardens to watch a little of the Swing Dancing before making my way back to DCA and ElecTRONica to see the finals of the Dance Crew Competition. I had a few minutes so walked through ElecTRONica to get one last set of pictures. After the competition walked out to the Blue Sky Cellar patio for some night shots of Cars Land. Decided to call it an evening and head for the tram, car, and home at this point.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Moderate Walking Stats (meaning over 2.5mph): 16,045 steps, 145 minutes.

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

Hello all,

Friday was washed out for me since I did not want to deal with the heavy rain storms we were having in Southern California, but as luck would have it I managed to free up Saturday to head to the Disneyland Resort. I thought Friday would have been fun from a numerical perspective since it would have been my 13th trip of the year and it was Friday the 13th. Anyways.... Saturday was a cool, but dry, day in the parks. The temps were in the low 50s when I arrived and did not climb too far into the 60s as the day went on. No rain, but plenty of clouds blew through. The parks had a healthy crowd but wait times were manageable all day and into the evening with very few over the 60 minute mark.

Thoughts and Observations:

  • Started off the Day at Californian Adventure. We are now just two months from the official opening of Cars Land and Buena Vista Street on June 15th, as well as the Mad T Party and Pixar Play Parade. When in doubt right now say June 15th for the opening date and you have a good shot at being correct. I believe the Matterhorn has the same target date too. Announced Monday on the DisneyParks Blog is that the Voice of Liberty will start performing in the Main Street Opera House on June 15th too. Also note that the Pixar Pals will be retired the end of the month in preparation for the parade.

  • Work on Buena Vista Street was in full swing on Saturday with several crews visible working on the facades. As you saw in the pictures the elephants that flanked Hollywood Blvd have been removed. The area felt more open with out them to me. Curious if the gates are staying? And if so for how long in their current form. They seem to stand out to me. I was a little disappointed to see the jet on the front of Taste Pilots was removed earlier in the week. Curious what they will now do to the facade. If it is going to be redone to better transition from Buena Vista Street or what.

  • Cars Land was much more quiet with the only crew I noticed working on some neon. No signs of testing going on during my spin on the Fun Wheel.

  • I was pleasantly surprised by the mild crowds on the Pier when we arrived, it was just after 10am and the park opening. The Fun Wheel had no wait and Toy Story was only 30 minutes.

  • I spent most of the afternoon and early evening at Disneyland. It had been a while since I spent a good chunk of time in the park and a leisurely afternoon was great. Hung out and watched some shows, went on a couple of attractions, and talked with some friends. In the evening took in some of the entertainment.

  • It was good to see the Calling All Drummers show (here are a couple video clips from a performance last year if you have never seen the show):

  • The music/dance choices at Disneyland Friday were interesting. It spanned a wide spectrum. With Plaza Gardens playing host to Doc Anello & the Swing Machine. In Tomorrowland Elvis (Scot Bruce) was there performing. Then over at DCA you had ElecTRONica. Not to mention the variety of performers in Downtown Disney. They had something for just about everyone!

  • Earlier this week it was announced that Plaza Gardens will be going behind walls the end of the month so they can start construction on the Fantasy Faire. This princess meet and greet will be opening sometime early next year. The announcement said the Saturday Swing dancing will be moving to Downtown Disney. No mention of what will become of the Performing Arts Showcase performances that also use the stage.

  • ElecTRONica ended its run on Sunday with the announcement of the Dance Crew Competition winner. Here is a video from Saturday of the final two teams. On Sunday evening at the Finale they announced the winner and it was Outer Circle.

  • I made one last pass through ElecTRONica on Saturday evening and was surprised to find the really long lines at both bars. Is this the norm on Saturday? On Fridays there are usually some people in line but nothing like what I saw on Saturday.

  • I continued to test and evaluate a new method of posting images as I roamed the park. I am now posting directly to the Geeks Blog So those of you who do not use twitter or follow us, you can see the images too. Any thoughts? Is this better/worse/the same as the way I was posting before? If you were not aware as I roam the parks I post some thoughts/pictures throughout the visit. So follow me @disneygeekcom
