Mousehears.com - Unofficial Walt Disney World Audio Tours

Note: As of 2008 this company appears to have gone out of business.. or at least their website is no longer working.

Hello all,

I was given the oportunity to preview and take a look at an interesting new audio program. Its called Mousehears and it is a series of audio tours that take you around Walt Disney World. They cover everything from planning, to tips, to trivia. I listened to their first tour which covers the Magic Kingdom.

For more information on the story behind Mousehears.com Lee Nazal, one of the co-owners of the site has sent us a brief history. Click Here

Here are my initial thoughts and observations after listening to this debut edition:

  • think this is a really interesting product hitting a great market. With the explosion of podcasts and other customized audio content I think the concept is solid and offers a lot of room to grow.

  • The production quality is really high with crisp, clear audio. Sometimes it sounds a little too clear and empty for my tastes but if listening on the go the isolated voice is great. I really like background music, or musical segways but I know that really is not possible without breaking copyright laws.

  • The script seems thoughtfully written and planned out. Most of the time it flows really nicely.. in a couple spots (which of course I wasn't taking notes so don't remember when) it seemed a little awkward but it quickly recovered.

  • The target audience for these audio tours seems to be newbies for the most part. There are several references and tidbits that disneygeeks and other "die hards" will enjoy but for the most part its geared toward first timers or those who just want to hear about the parks as they go through there day. I suggested to them that someday they might want to expand and make an "advanced" or "geek" version that skips the fundamentals and hits the trivia and trivial aspects in depth.

  • The other interesting tightrope the tours seem to walk is the difference between commentary/editorial content and information/documentary type content. They do a good job of identifing what is they opionion for the most part but you can tell its a struggle to balance the tours.

My recommendation: If you are into the digital audio craze as many are and are looking for more content to feed your adiction this is a great source of WDW content and will help to transport you to your happy place (assuming WDW is your happy place). If your a newbie to the Walt Disney World Resort and do not see yourself having time to read the many guidebooks out there or want something that you can do on the go this is an interesting choice to explore.
