 The Geek's Library Reviews:

Disney’s It’s a Magical World Hypersuite

I was given the opportunity to give the Disney's It's a Magical World Hypersuite product a test run and overall I was impressed with the depth of the integration into Windows. This product is a complete theme modification to Windows XP. It changes the look/feel of the operating system, many of the icons, and even the Windows Media player skin to match the theme. Below is a screen shot, which does a much better job of showing the integration and depth of change than I could describe, so you can see the extensive transformation this product carries out for your windows environment.

I have never been a big graphical user interface person, just for comparison I still run my Windows XP boxes with the classic Windows theme and I have my Vista machines scaled back too. I also still use a telnet session for managing my email... so with that said I cannot/should not comment too much on how this compares to other themes/overlays since I do not use any. I did find the icons and other graphic elements to be complete and interesting. I would think the target audience, children, would really enjoy seeing the Disney references version the "cold" Microsoft graphics/icons. I found the backgrounds to be a little too bold/bright for my tastes, but then again I am not the target audience and I could see how a young child would be engaged, at least for a few moments, with them.

Installation of the software was smooth. I downloaded it from their website (its fairly large, just under 100MB, so a decent internet connection is required), and installed it. Since its Windows XP you had to reboot after installation but that's Microsoft's issue really.. After installing you call up the manager and select the colors and elements you want to use for your desktop. One limitation to mention is this only works on Windows XP for the time being. There is no Vista version or MAC version, yet. The Vista version is slated for this Fall/Winter.

The Un-install procedure was just as painless but one thing I did not like. Instead of restoring my original settings it reset everything back to the Microsoft defaults. This was extremely annoying... I was expecting to be restored to my old settings. One other minor annoyance the large copyright text/logo on the wallpaper/desktop background, I understand the need but seems to me this could be integrated or shrunk somehow..
