This is the entranceway to the park. You will
pass through the turnstyles and then pass directly under the Golden
Gate Bridge (which the monorail crosses) to enter the park.
The Geek's First Impressions (2/3/01)
- Upon entering the park you are flanked by large murals depicting
Northern and Southern California, they do remind you of the CA
freeway murals, but overall I did not think they were that bad.
They just blended in. (Do not know if this is because I have seen
them so much from outside the park or what)...
- Walking under the Golden Gate Bridge and into the Sunshine Plaza
was a pretty cool moment, I would rank it up there with walking
into the Disney Studios at WDW and seeing looking down Hollywood
Blvd. Not as awesome as the Magic Kingdom (or Disneyland), or
rounding the corner to cross the bridge and the Tree of Life coming
into view at the Animal Kingdom, but still good.
- The Sun icon seems really strange to me. Usually Disney park
icons are used to draw you into the park, but here once you walk
the really short distance under the bridge you have to choose
a direction right away. Also the sun itself really did not impress
us. The reflectors that kept sunlight reflecting off of it were
cool (but from a "geeky" perspective not a themepark
one...
- The fountain under the icon was pretty cool though. It had several
"wave" effects.
- The train on the West side of the Sunshine Plaza was extremely
cool. It looked awesome.
- Complaint: The coffee smell from the coffee shop in the train
was too overpowering.
- Also I was surprised at how good of a job the narrow entrance
way and the Golden Gate bridge do to block your view of Disneyland.
You can see the train station only from a few places, and at that
you really have to look for it (once you cross under the bridge
and enter the Sunshine Plaza that is).
